Jind: Girl attempts suicide outside SP’s home after being allegedly raped by uncle

A class 10th student attempted suicide on Monday by consuming a poisonous substance outside the official residence of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Jind after she was allegedly raped repeatedly by her maternal uncle and was forced into a settlement by the village panchayat when she lodged a police complaint.

The girl, a resident of Kaithal’s Dayora Khurana, was living with her maternal uncle in a village under Sadar Police Station area, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Captain Singh said.

The uncle had been repeatedly raping her following which a month ago she lodged complaint at Woman Police Station against him but she was forced into a settlement by the village panchayat, he said.

However, her uncle continued to rape her and also tried to kill her.

The girl consumed a poisonous substance in front of the residence of the Superintendent of Police and was admitted to a hospital in Jind in a critical condition from where she was referred to PGI, Rohtak.

On receiving information about the incident, the DSP, Women Police Station in-charge Santosh Singh and other officials reached the hospital.

The police registered a case of rape against the maternal uncle after recording the victim’s statement. Raids are being carried out to nab the accused, Singh added.
