Karnataka elections Highlights: Rahul Gandhi says PM Modi makes tall promises only to break them
Karnataka goes to polls on May 12 and results will be declared on May 15 for the 224-member assembly.
The Congress and the BJP have stepped up campaigning in Karnataka ahead of state assembly election on May 12.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s chief minister candidate BS Yeddyurappa on Friday released the party’s poll manifesto while Congress president Rahul Gandhi held public rallies in Kalgi and Shiggaon, where he hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not addressing farmers’ issues.
Karnataka goes to polls on May 12 and results will be declared on May 15 for the 224-member assembly.

Amit Shah said it himself -- that the Yeddyurappa government in corrupt, Gandhi says referring to the BJP president’s gaffe in which he mistakenly said Yeddyurappa was corrput while attacking Congress during a campaign rally.

1:25pm: On the day BJP releases its manifesto, Rahul Gandhi addresses a rally in Kalgi and lists the achievements of the Congress government in Karnataka.
11:30am: BJP manifesto promises waiver of farm loan of up to ₹one lakh borrowed from nationalised and cooperative banks, reports PTI.
11:20am: The manifesto says it will allocate ₹2,500 crore ’Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Fund’ to clean and revive lakes and rivers of Bengaluru, and free residents from the water tanker mafia.
11am: For women empowerment, the party says it will introduce a Special Investigation Cell -- that will be run by a woman police officer and will employ 1,000 women cops -- to investigate all pending crimes against women.
The party will also Increase the amount payable at maturity under the Bhagyalakshmi scheme to ₹2 lakh. It also promises free smartphones for women from BPL families.
For action against crimes against women, BJP says ‘Kittur Rani Chennamma Flying Squads’ will attend to distress calls of women in Bengaluru quickly.
10:55am: BJP promises it will enable 1,000 farmers to travel to countries such as Israel and China per year to study best practices under the ‘CM’s Fellowship for Agriculture’.
10:48am: Other key points of BJP manifesto:
• ₹1.5 Lakh Crore ’Sujalam Suphalam Karnataka Yojane’ to complete all irrigation projects by 2023.
• Launching ’Mission Kalyani’ to rejuvenate all tanks and lakes in the state.
• Three phase power supply for 10 hours for farmers to operate their pump sets.
10:45am: The “Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation Bill 2012” will be reintroduced, says party.
10:43am: BJP’s manifesto includes allocation of ₹3,000 crore Kamadhenu Fund for development of animal husbandry and dairy farming infrastructure, and ₹1,000 crore fund for expanding veterinary services.
10:40am: Welfare of farmers has always been our priority. We will allocate ₹1,50,000 crore for various irrigation projects in Karnataka and ensure water reaches to every field in the state, says Yeddyurappa.
