“We extend our hearty condolences to the families which have lost their dear ones in the attack,” Palaniswami and Panneerselvam said in a joint statement.

Opposition leader and DMK president MK Stalin said the attacks were a challenge to humanity.

“The bomb blast hurt my heart much. The attackers may either a racist or communalist, stringent action should be taken against them,” Stalin said in his statement.

Tamil matinee icon Rajinikanth said that he has no words to console the victims’ families.

“I have no words to console people who were affected by the bomb blast that happened on the Easter Day,” Rajini said in a tweet.

Rajini’s celluloid rival and Makkal Needhi Maiam President Kamal Haasan said violence can never be the final solution to human disagreements.

“Ironic that the island that spawned the word serendipity is not able to find it. My deepest sympathies to those affected by the bombs in Sri Lanka. The Government should be impartial and swift in rendering justice,” Kamal said in a statement.
