Maharashtra election result highlights: Mahayuti wins big, bags 235 of 288 assembly seats

Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction's candidate Aditi Sunil Tatkare has won the Shrivardhan seat.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is in a comfortable lead from the Nagpur South West seat. Devendra Fadnavis is ahead by a margin of nearly 23,000 votes by his rival, Congress candidate Prafulla Vinodrao Gudadhe.

The Ghatkopar East seat has been won by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parag Shah.

Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) faction's candidate Shantaram Tukaram More has won the Bhiwandi Rural seat.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has increased his lead over Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction)'s Milind Deora from the Worli seat. The two leaders are in a neck and neck contest, with Aaditya having taken lead, trailed and coming back to lead. Aaditya Thackeray is leading over Milind Deora by more than 3,800 votes.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on 36 seats in the Vidarbha region, which has turned out to be ‘gamechanger’ for the National Democractic Alliance (NDA), also known as the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra.

Reacting to the landslide victory that the NDA is set to register in Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis posted on X, “Ek hai toh safe hai, Modi hai toh mumkin hai”.

The BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP alliance are on course for a sweeping victory over rival MVA, which has scored unprecedentedly low in the Maharashtra Assembly polls, as per the current leads.

As per the figures of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the following are the leads in Maharashtra at 12:50 pm:

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray is tied in a neck and neck contest with Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) faction's Milind Deora from the Worli seat. Aaditya Thackeray, who had lost his lead, is again leading from the seat by a margin of over 1,000 votes.

The BJP has logged the first win in Maharashtra, with its leader Kalidas Nilkanth Kolamkar winning the Wadala constituency.

With Mahayuti on course to form a government in Maharashtra again, CM and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde says, " I thank the voters of Maharashtra. This is a landslide victory. I had said before that Mahayuti will get a thumping victory. I thank all sections of the society. I also thank all the workers of the Mahayuti parties. "

With 123 candidates ahead as per current leads, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alone has outdone the combined performance of the MVA parties, which are leading on 56 constituencies.

The BJP is part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance, which also includes the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar camp of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Going by the current leads, even the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) is ahead on 60 seats, more than the combined tally of the MVA parties

Going by the current leads, the MVA parties are seeing their worst poll performance in Maharashtra with the Shiv Sena (UBT) leading on 18 seats and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP leading on 15 seats. The Congress, meanwhile, is leading on 38 seats.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has lost his lead to Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde)'s Milind Deora. Aaditya Thackeray, who was leading initially, is now trailing by over 17,000.

BJP leader and Maharashtra deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis is leading from the Nagpur South West seat by a margin of over 14,000 votes against rival Prafulla Vinodrao Gudadhe of the Congress.

Former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan of Congress is trailing from Karad South. “We cant figure out the reasons for the losses. Ladki Bahin helped the Mahayuti and we had bad leadership. RSS has helped BJP big way,” Chavan said.

As per current leads, the National Democractic Alliance (NDA), also known as the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra, is ahead on over 225 seats, while the numbers of the Opposition bloc - Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) - have gone down to 50.

As leads showed a huge gap between the leading Mahayuti alliance and the Maha Vikas Aghadi Opposition bloc, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said, "Maharashtra election results are opposite to our expectations. There is no doubt that we could have done better. At the same time, we are happy that we have performed well in Jharkhand and we are going to repeat govt in the state. Maharashtra elections have been disappointing. In Maharashtra, our campaign was good but maybe the public expects more from us and we will deliver on their expectations. ..."

While most exit polls had given an edge to the Mahayuti of BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP, however, the ruling alliance seems to be doing better than the projections, if we go by the current leads.

The MVA bloc of the Opposition, meanwhile, is so far underperforming with a little over 50 leads.

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) leader Sanjay Raut said he sees a “big conspiracy” in the results as the Mahayuti alliance took a huge lead over the MVA in early trends after counting of votes began at 8 am.

“We don't accept this as people's mandate… something is fishy in election results. Even people must be wondering how to accept this mandate,” Raut said.

Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha result LIVE: The NDA or the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena and the NCP, is ahead on 216 seats in leads, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is struggling to increase its numbers and is leading on 61 seats.

Counting of votes began at 8 am.

Election Commission Result: According to the Election Commission numbers at around 10:30 am, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on 122 seats, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on 58 seats, the Ajit Pawar camp of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on 37 seats, Congress on 20, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) on 19, and the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) on 10 seats.
