IND vs WI Highlights, 2nd T20I: West Indies pulled off the highest successful run-chase against India in T20Is, as they chased down 250 with 9 balls to spare. Shai Hope starred with his second T20I ton, while Sherfane Rutherford scored 86.
India posted 249/5 at the end of 20 overs. Sanju Samson top scored with 82 runs, while Shreyas Iyer (43) and Tilak Varma (44) played important hands in the latter half of the innings. The Men in Blue are coming into this game on the back of a massive 8-wicket win in the first game in Lucknow.
HISTORY MADE BY WEST INDIES!!!
Shai Hope remains unbeaten on a massive century, as West Indies do the unthinkable. They have chased down 250 with 6 balls to spare. This is the highest run-chase ever pulled off against India. In fact, this is also the second time that a team has chased 250+ in the history of T20Is.
Shai Hope continues big hitting spree!!
After the wicket of Sherfane Rutherford, the mantle of big hitting has now been taken over by Shai Hope. He was playing the second fiddle role to Rutherford, but now he has gone absolutely berserk. They are now inches away from pulling off a huge run chase.
Relief for India as Rutherford departs!!
Sherfane Rutherford was looking to take the game away from India as he was nearing a century. However, against the run of play, Kuldeep Yadav came in and struck an important blow. Sanju Samson took a sharp catch from an edge. India will heave a sigh of relief.
50 for Rutherford!!
Sherfane Rutherford has followed his captain, and hit an even quicker half-century in just 24 deliveries. He, along with Shai Hope, is stitching a partnership that is nearing the century mark. This is some incredible hitting from the duo.
Fifty for Shai Hope!!
West Indies are playinf exceedingly well as they remain toe-to-toe with the required run rate. Shai Hope has been the star with the bat smashing yet another fifty - his second consecutive in this series, and his 5th 50+ score overall in this tour. What a tour he is having!!
Good powerplay for West Indies
Mayank Yadav has picked up three West Indies wicket in the powerplay, but the visitors have still managed to keep the runs going. In the powerplay, WI put up 72 runs, courtesy some quick blows from Shai Hope, Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford.
Mayank strikes again after Hope, Powell pulled things back
After the fall of the two wickets in the first over, West Indies pulled things back, and maintained a healthy run-rate as well as Shai Hope and Rovman Powell put on a half-century stand. But Mayank Yadav was brought in for his third straight over, and he delivered yet another blow, castling Powell's stumps.
What a delivery by Mayank Yadav!!
Instead of relying on slower balls and off-cutters like he did in the previous match, Mayank Yadav went back to the basic, bowling to his biggest strength - pace. Out of his two wickets, the one to dismiss Shimron Hetmyer was a peach perfect delivery.
Mayank Yadav strikes early!!
Mayank Yadav has been given the task to bowl the first over of the day, and he has given instant impact. The pacer has taken the wickets of Kamil Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer in consecutive deliveries. Things could have not started in worse fashion for the visitors.
India set 250-run target!!
Team India might not have scored the coveted 250-run mark in 20 overs, but they did set a target of 250 for West Indies. In the final over of the match, the Men in Blue hit 23 runs. Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma put on a fantastic partnership of 83 for the 6th wicket. This is the first time that a team has scored more than 200+ at Ranchi.
Fifty-run stand up!!
Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma are providing the perfect finishing touch for India, with the duo slamming a half-century partnership for fifth wicket. This was a great pull back from the Men in Blue after they lost three wickets on the trot.
Can Shreyas Iyer replicate his form?
Shreyas Iyer roared back into form with his first T20I century in the 1st T20I against West Indies. With just three overs remaining, he is looking in good touch having already hit three sixes. He now needs to continue his big hitting spree, if India wants to score something above or even close to 250.
Sanju Samson OUT!!
Oh no! India have suffered a big blow as it is the man of the moment Sanju Samson who becomes the fourth wicket to fall. He narrowly misses out on a century, as Shamar Springer takes his wicket on 82 runs. With Tilak Varma coming in to join Shreyas Iyer, the duo will now look to overcome this mini collapse, and end the innings on a high.
Chase takes three!!
Roston Chase has done it again. He has clearly been the standout among all West Indies bowlers. India lose their third wicket in the form of Shivam Dube, and all three wickets have been taken by Chase. He finishes his spell with figures of 4/24 from 4 overs.
Ishan Kishan departs!!
Ishan Kishan is now the second wicket to fall for India, and his stumps were castled by Roston Chase. A special word should be reserved for Chase. While all other bowlers are being hammered all over the park, the off-spinner has given just 16 runs in his three overs.
India on top after 10 overs!!
India have gone berserk in the first 10 overs, and the early wicket of Abhishek Sharma clearly did not have an effect on them. Ishan Kishan, who kept himself subdued in the partnership, also got into the act, hitting 20 in the 10th over. After the halfway mark India are 127/1.
Fifty-run stand!!
It has been a quick-fire stand from Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan. While Samson has done the bulk of the hitting, Kishan has remained steady at the other end, as he stands onf 18 runs from 13 balls. India too have crossed the 100-run mark, as the Men in Blue look to post a score well above 220.
Fifty for Sanju Samson!!
Finally Sanju Samson can breathe a sigh of relief after a dismal run of form. He has slammed a half-century in just 21 deliveries, as his big shots ensured that India did not lose momentum after the early wicket of Abhishek Sharma. This is now the joint-fastest T20I fifty by an Indian against West Indies. Samson equals the record held by Virat Kohli.
Sanju Samson goes berserk
After the fall of wicket of Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson has come into his own. He smashed two sixes and two fours in the the final over of the powerplay as he is now nearing a smashing half-century.
Abhishek Sharma departs!!
And West Indies strike, and they have got the dangerous wicket of Abhishek Sharma. He looked good as she scored 21 runs, but it was off-spin that once again proved to be his undoing. Sharma tried to hit Roston Chase over mid off, but gave it straight into his hands.
Sanju Samson joins in!!
Sanju Samson stayed quiet for a long time as Abhishek Sharma was going gung ho at the other end. However, he too joined in the party, and the upward trajectory in his innings started with a no ball bowled by Akeal Hosein, which he hit for a six.
Milestone for Abhishek Sharma!!
It is a milestone for Abhishek Sharma as he gets India off to a flying start. He has now slammed 1,000 T20I runs in India. He now becomes the 7th batter to reach this landmark on Indian soil. Virat Kohli was the first to achieve this back in 2019.
Abhishek off to a flyer
Abhishek Sharma is off to a flyer in the first over, as West Indies brought in the spin of Akeal Hosein to counter him. But he stuck to his favourite shot to get some big runs. He made room and hit a lofted drive over extra cover twice, with the final ball of the over going for a massive six.
Can Sanju Samson break his poor run of form?
Sanju Samson is on a lean patch at the moment at the top of the order. In his last 4 T20I innings, he has scored 2,7,9 and 11. In fact, this list of scores came after Samson hit two consecutive fifties against Afghanistan last month. This is a chance for Samson to score freely on a flattish surface in Ranchi, because if he falters for thr fifth time in a row, we have a young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi waiting in the wings.
