Officials said the children had come to their maternal grandmother’s house at Undasa village with their parents. The incident took place on Tuesday night but was reported on Wednesday, they added.

They were playing on Tuesday night when they felt thirsty and requested Arjun Thakur, a villager, to give them water as the hand pump nearby was not working. But Thakur allegedly refused to oblige them.

When the children requested again, Arjun and another villager Kanha Thakur got furious and hit them with belts.

Police said they are investigating the matter after registering a case.

“A medical examination of all the four kids has been done. Signs of the beating were found during the medical examination. We are probing the incident and soon the accused will be arrested,” additional superintendent of police (ASP) Pramod Sonkar said.
