Militants on Tuesday evening attacked the Rashtriya Rifles camp in north Kashmir’s Hajin town. Security sources said they have launched a search for the attackers.

Locals said that around 8:30 pm, militants attacked the camp of 13 Rashtriya Rifles close to the local police station. It is one of the biggest army camps in Hajin area.

An army spokesman said that the standoff is continuing, and locals said protesters are raising slogans close to the army camp.

Hajin witnessed a spurt in violence in the recent past. Police say around nine militants of the Lashkar-e-Taiba are active in the town and the group is headed by a local militant named Saleema Parray.

In the last two months, six civilians have been killed in Hajin and its adjoining areas.
