Security forces capture pigeon carrying chit to blow up Jammu railway station

Security forces captured a pigeon carrying a threat note to blow up the Jammu railway station, officials said.
The pigeon was captured from the border area of RS Pura in Jammu district, following which security was tightened in the region, PTI quoted officials as saying.
“The pigeon believed to be flying in from Pakistan was caught in the Katmaria area along the International Border at around 9 pm on August 18," a senior police official said, adding that a chit was found tied to the bird's claws with a message to blow up the Jammu railway station.
This is the first time that a pigeon carrying a threat letter has been intercepted, officials said, adding that in the past, balloons, flags and pigeons with various messages have been captured near the International Border (IB).
The officials said that security agencies were probing whether this was just an act of mischief or a well-planned conspiracy, PTI reported.
The message on the chit was a threatening note to blow up the railway station with an IED, and was written in Urdu and English, along with phrases including “Kashmir Freedom” and “time has come”.
Following the incident, security forces were beefed up around the railway station and tracks, with dog squads and bomb disposal teams also being deployed. The local police has also been put on high alert, according to officials.
Security experts said that the pigeon might have been specially trained and released from across the border along with the threat message, the PTI report said. “You have to take such matters seriously,” a security expert said.
