Ahmedabad shocker: Massive NSUI workers protest after Class 10 student's murder
Police said the victim, a Class 10 student, was stabbed by a classmate following an altercation and later succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night.
National Students' Union of India (NSUI) workers staged a protest in Ahmedabad on Thursday, demanding justice following the death of a student who was stabbed by a classmate.
Holding placards, a large number of NSUI workers took to the streets to protest against the authorities and attempted to enter the Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School.
However, a heavy deployment of police personnel prevented them from entering the premises, and some protesters were taken into preventive custody on the spot.
In addition to the security personnel, water cannons were deployed outside the school. On Wednesday, family members of the deceased student had approached the police with complaints against the school management.
Police said the victim, a Class 10 student, was stabbed by a classmate following an altercation and later succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night. The accused, a fellow student, has been detained, and an FIR has been registered.
Clarifying earlier reports, police confirmed that both the victim and the attacker were enrolled in Class 10, contrary to statements from state education minister Praful Pansheriya, who had said the accused was a Class 9 student.
“A Class 10 student stabbed his classmate at Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School yesterday. The victim died during treatment last night. Police have registered an FIR and detained the juvenile accused,” PTI quoted Joint Commissioner of Police Jaipal Singh Rathore as saying.
On Wednesday morning, hundreds of people, including the victim’s family, parents of other students, and members of the Sindhi community, gathered at the school to demand action against the administration.
The protest soon turned chaotic, with demonstrators damaging school buses and vehicles parked on the premises and assaulting staff members, PTI reported, citing police.
Authorities initially struggled to control the situation and had to push the crowd out of the school grounds.
Protesters then staged a sit-in on the road, blocking traffic and shouting slogans against the police while pressing for action against the school administration.
