All Gujarat ministers, except Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, submitted their resignations on Thursday. They were asked to do so by Wednesday afternoon to allow Patel and the party leadership enough time to plan a “strategic reset” ahead of the local body elections and the 2027 assembly polls, a senior BJP leader said.
On Friday, Patel met Governor Acharya Devvrat at Raj Bhavan and formally requested approval to hold the swearing-in of the new cabinet members.
Sharing a post on X, the Gujarat Governor wrote, "Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel ji visited Raj Bhavan today and paid a courtesy call. During this time, the Chief Minister acquainted with the current status of the Gujarat cabinet and sought permission to organise the swearing-in ceremony for the new cabinet members."
The outgoing council of ministers had eight cabinet rank ministers, two ministers of state with independent charge and six ministers of state.
Gujarat has a 182 member assembly and can have up to 27 ministers, which makes up 15 per cent of the total strength of the House.
