“We have registered a case on the father’s complaint under different sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO) Act against six named students of Mayo College and are investigating. It is very early to say anything on this,” said Priti Chaudhary, deputy superintendent of police, the investigating officer of the case.

Reacting to the incident, Surendra Kulkarni, principal and director, Mayo College, said: “The police is investigating the matter, let’s wait for the findings; I have nothing more to say at this juncture”.

According to the FIR (No. 283/18), lodged by the father, with the school’s management committee seconding it, the Class 11 student was sexually abused by his seniors for several days. “On July 10, the seniors barged into my son’s room and forced him to drink alcohol and take drugs. They took him to the washroom later and sodomised him in turns,” the father said in the FIR.

“Each time they sexually abused my son, they forced him to take drugs. They threatened him of dire consequences if he reported the incident to anyone,” the man wrote in the FIR. The abuse continued until July 26 when the boy left and told his parents about what he was going through, the father said in his complaint to the police.

“He is under great distress and is deeply disturbed. This was his first year in the boarding school,” the FIR quoted father as saying. HT has seen the FIR in which school management committee is a co-complainant.
