Two persons were injured in a blast at an apartment complex in Agartala’s Ramnagar area on Thursday, with police suspecting a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) leak as the possible cause.

Police said that Subhrajeet Choudhury, who was present inside the flat where the explosion occurred, sustained severe burn injuries. He was taken to the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital.

“Two persons were injured. They were sent to the hospitals. The explosion occurred due to leakage in gas pipeline,” said a police officer.

Windows, doors and internal structures of adjacent flats were shattered, the officer added.

Locals said that many residents sustained minor injuries as windows and doors were shattered due to the explosion.

“I was in my office when I got to know about the incident. Fortunately, there was no one in our flat at that time, but I found the door of my bathroom shattered. We don’t know how the explosion occurred,” said a resident of the apartment.

Police said that their preliminary investigation found that the explosion occurred due to a gas pipeline leak.
