‘Unforgivable crime of BJP’: Kharge on 14 kids infected with HIV in UP hospital
14 children who were undergoing blood transfusion tested positive for Hepatitis and HIV at a government-run Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital in UP's Kanpur.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over children, who were undergoing blood transfusions in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh, testing positive for infections like Hepatitis B, C, and HIV, saying that the “innocent children are suffering the punishment for an unforgivable crime” of the saffron party.
“The double-engine government has made our health system doubly sick. In a government hospital in Kanpur, UP, infected blood was given to 14 children suffering from thalassemia, due to which these children got serious diseases like HIV AIDS and Hepatitis B, C. This serious negligence is shameful,” Kharge wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Congress leader further took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for calling 10 pledges amid the Dusshera festivity. “Yesterday Modi ji was teaching us big things about taking 10 resolutions, has he ever fixed even an iota of accountability for his BJP governments?” he questioned.
In a shocking incident on Monday, 14 children who were undergoing blood transfusion tested positive for Hepatitis and HIV at the government-run Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur. According to doctors, the children are now facing a greater risk in addition to the Thalassemia condition that necessitated the transfusions in the first place.
According to officials, the 14 children are aged between the ages of 6 and 16, and are among the 180 thalassemia patients receiving blood transfusion at the center. Out of the infected children, seven tested positive for Hepatitis B, five for Hepatitis C, and two for HIV.
Reportedly, the children belong to different parts of the state including - Kanpur City, Dehat, Farrukhabad, Auraiya, Etawah, and Kannauj.
“District-level officials will trace the root of infection under the Viral Hepatitis Control Programme. The team will look for the place of infection, both for hepatitis and HIV,” an official said.
