Highlights: MK Stalin elected as DMK’s president

All the 65 district secretaries of the party had proposed the name of the 65-year-old Stalin for the post of DMK president and his was the only nomination.

MK Stalin was on Tuesday unanimously elected as DMK president, a post that his father M Karunanidhi held for 49 years till his death earlier this month, after a meeting of the party’s general council in Chennai.

The path to Stalin’s elevation was paved at the party’s executive committee meeting held on August 14 where senior leaders urged the “waiting prince” to lead them by taking over the party’s mantle.

All the 65 district secretaries of the party had proposed the name of 65-year-old Stalin for the top post and his was the only nomination.
