Maharashtra political crisis: LIVE COVERAGE
Here's all you need to know about the Sena Young Turk's combative role in the ongoing political crisis.
1. On June 22, Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray in an emotional speech said he was ready to resign if any of the rebel legislators told him on face they didn't want him as CM. Hours later, he left his official residence ‘Varsha’ and returned to his personal residence ‘Matoshri’. Thackeray's return was a show of strength by his party cadre, with cameras capturing Aaditya Thackeray greeting the supporters as he flashed a victory sign.
2. On June 25, the Shiv Sena called an emergency meeting where the party passed key resolutions. The party said Uddhav Thackeray is authorised to take legal actions against the rebels. Reiterating that the party belongs to Balasaheb Thackeray and nobody is authorised to use his name and form a new group, the Sena opposed the creation of a new group by the Eknath Shinde group.
3. During his address to the Sena workers at the Mahalaxmi’s Lala Lajpatrai college, Aaditya Thackeray launched an all out attack on the rebel MLAs. “Dilip Lande held my hand and said that he would not leave the party and yet he went. I challenge him to tell me about one development work that I did not do for him. Similarly, we had planned several tourism projects in Sandipanji’s [Bhumre] constituency. It feels bad that our people left in this manner,” he added.
4. Aaditya Thackeray further attacked the rebels, saying that the ‘dirt’ from the party had gone and the betrayal came from the party and not an ally. The junior Thackeray even challenged the rebels to resign and contest fresh elections.
5. On Sunday, Aaditya Thackeray slammed the Shinde ‘Sena’ which is camping in Guwahati since the rebellion began. Invoking his father's fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, Aaditya said the war is between ‘satya’ (truth) and ‘asatya’ (lies).
6. Addressing the party workers for the second consecutive day, Thackeray “When these MLAs come to the state assembly, they should have the guts to see in our eyes and tell us what we have not done for them. The ambitions of these people are monstrous.”
