Woman tourist found murdered in Goa hotel room, boyfriend prime suspect

The victim’s body was discovered in the afternoon, hours after her boyfriend checked out of the hotel in the morning.

A young woman tourist from Una in Himachal Pradesh was found stabbed to death in her hotel room at Arpora village in North Goa on Saturday and her boyfriend who had checked in with her is suspected of committing the murder, police said.

Alka Saini’s body was found by a member of the housekeeping staff who went to clean the room hours after the boyfriend Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Chandigarh, and some others checked out of the hotel. Police did not say how many people checked out.

Singh has been identified as the prime suspect in the case.

The Anjuna Police have begun a manhunt for the suspects and have alerted their counterparts in neighbouring states and issued lookout alerts at critical points like bus stands and railway stations to arrest the accused.

While the accused checked out of the hotel in the late morning, the body was discovered in the afternoon and the police were informed soon after at around 5pm.

“The investigation is in its preliminary stages and we are still ascertaining how many persons were involved in the crime, and the motive behind the murder, Police Inspector Navlesh Dessai said.

The body was sent for post mortem.

The police have also dispatched teams to Chandigarh and Andhra Pradesh in an effort to trace the accused.
