21:18 hrs IST: That is all we have from here. Join us for the series decider starting on October 29 at Green Park. Bye Bye!

21:16 hrs IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Man of the Match: Whenever I bowl with the new ball, I try to swing it. It didn’t happen today, so I was focussed in bowling in good areas. When you’re confident, things get easier.

21:12 hrs IST: Virat Kohli: Bowlers were really clinical today and fielders as well. Both those guys are coming along nicely. They know they’re going to start more often than not. Today, with the wicket being slow, it was heartening to see them getting wickets in conventional ways. Dhawan has been playing really well. He’s pretty confident at the moment. Dinesh as well, getting some crucial runs for himself as well as the team

21:09 hrs IST: Williamson: It was one of those surfaces that if you could get a score on the board, and then squeeze, but 230 wasn’t enough. Credit to India the way they bowled. Lot of positives from our middle order to take us to that total. Surface wasn’t easy to play fluently.

21:04 hrs IST: Karthik: It is important to spend as much time in the middle. It was even more important for me to be there when we won the match and I am happy that I was able to do that. So far so good (on the comeback). I have had a lot of demons to fight and these things happen inside you. In the end lot of credit to Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli.

20:55 hrs IST: Karthik finishes the game off in style as he punches a length ball past cover for a boundary. India have won by six wickets and have levelled the series in style. The series decider will be played in Kanpur on October 28.

20:46 hrs IST: FOURS! Brilliant from Dhoni. He slogs a length ball past Guptill at mid on for a boundary and then neatly punches a short ball past cover. Any moment now for India.

20:44 hrs IST: India need 16 runs to win. This has been a thorough performance.

20:41 hrs IST: FOUR! Dhoni gets off the mark with a boundary to fine leg. Boult misses his line and the batsman gets the glance fine.

20:33 hrs IST: WICKET! Pandya falls but it could be a bit too late. Low full toss on leg stump, Pandya top-edges the sweep and short fine leg takes the catch. Hardik Pandya c Milne b Santner 30 (31).

20:31 hrs IST: FOUR! Short and wide from de Grandhomme, Karthik cracks the square cut to the deep point fence to bring up his 9th fifty. India are nearing a very good win.

20:28 hrs IST: It is only a matter of time before India draw the series. New Zealand are unable to take any quick wickets.

20:22 hrs IST:FOUR! Pandya gets underneath a short ball and wallops it to the deep mid wicket fence. India need under 50.

20:07 hrs IST: In the air but safe! The ball stops on Pandya and he chips the drive to short cover but it lands in front of the fielder.

19:59 hrs IST: SIX! Pandya responds in style. Flighted from Santner and the right-hander slams it over long on for a crucial six.

19:55 hrs IST: Milne and Santner are building the pressure on Pandya. This will be a tough test for the youngster.

19:51 hrs IST: Santner flights the delivery up generously, but Pandya is not yet tempted. India need 84 more to win.

19:48 hrs IST: Pandya needs to curb his natural instinct to attack the left-arm spin of Mitchell Santner. Will he hold back or go for the kill?

19:44 hrs IST: WICKET! Tame dismissal. Dhawan dances down the track to Milne and drives on the up but finds Ross Taylor at cover. Shikhar Dhawan c Ross Taylor b Adam Milne 68 (84).

18:52 hrs IST: The required run-rate is under 4.5 at this point. Dhawan is looking in great touch.

18:47 hrs IST: New Zealand have pulled things a bit after the dismissal of Kohli. However, India bat deep and with this good start, they can afford to take their time.

18:40 hrs IST: FOUR! Streaky way to get off the mark. Karthik angles the bat and runs it down to third man for a boundary.

18:38 hrs IST: WICKET! Nothing shot from Kohli. Good length ball wide outside off, Kohli wafts at it and is beaten. He waits for a bit whether it is a no-ball but he has to go. Virat Kohli c Latham b De Grandhomme 29 (29).

18:36 hrs IST: FOUR! Dhawan comes closer to his fifty as he slaps a short ball outside off to deep cover.

18:31 hrs IST: The partnership has crossed 50. India are cruising towards the total.

18:26 hrs IST: Loud appeal for an LBW. Milne fires in a full ball on leg stump from round the wicket, Dhawan looks to jam it down the ground but gets hit on the pad, probably going down leg.

18:17 hrs IST: FOUR! Adam Milne bowls it on the pad and flicks it past the fielder at mid on for a boundary.

18:14 hrs IST: SIX! Kohli totally miscues the pull shot but it is enough to take it over deep mid wicket. The bat swing was quick and that is what saves him.

18:10 hrs IST: Review! Short ball on leg stump, Dhawan attempts the pull but misses, New Zealand appeal but umpire Shamshuddin does not give it, replays show no spike on Real Time Snicko. New Zealand lose a review.

18:06 hrs IST: FOUR! Absolutely pummelled. Short ball, Kohli does the Nataraj shot and hammers the pull to deep mid wicket.

17:47 hrs IST: FOUR! Short ball and Rohit crunches the pull to deep mid wicket, one bounce over the ropes. Good start this for India.

17:46 hrs IST: Almost a run-out! Dhawan was struggling for the third run there. However, Santner fires a weak throw and he just makes it.

17:44 hrs IST: FOUR! Dhawan gets going. Short ball and rising just outside off, the left-hander slashes and the edge flies over the slips to third man.

17:41 hrs IST: Southee begins with a maiden. However, Trent Boult could be the key for New Zealand here.

17:38 hrs IST: Welcome back for the run chase. Tim Southee was expensive in Mumbai but he will get a bit more pace and bounce from this deck. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan need to start well.

16:56 hrs IST: New Zealand have finished on 230/9, an under-par score probably on this wicket.

16:33 hrs IST: DROPPED! Santner hits a low full toss to Bumrah and the bowler cannot hold onto it. New Zealand need some luck.

16:20 hrs IST: SIX! Santner slogs Axar to the deep mid wicket stand. New Zealand have to keep scoring.

16:15 hrs IST: Chahal and Axar are bowling in tandem. Can New Zealand score off the spinners? Only eight runs in the first two overs of the death overs.

16:11 hrs IST: New Zealand are 168/6 after 40 overs. How much can they score in the last 10 overs? De Grandhomme holds the key.

15:26 hrs IST: In the air but safe! Latham sweeps Chahal but the ball dips and lands in front of Axar at backward square leg.

15:22 hrs IST: FOUR! Nice way to bring up the 50-run stand. Nicholls gives himself some room and cuts a short ball past the gap at cover.

15:21 hrs IST: Latham plays the back of the bat paddle sweep and gets a couple. Now, that is a new feature added to his already skilled repertoire against spin.

15:16 hrs IST: New Zealand bring up the team 100 but they will need much more. On this deck, a total of 270-280 is needed to challenge the Indian batting.

15:14 hrs IST: After 25 overs, New Zealand are 97/4. Latham is once again playing a good knock. Nicholls has hung in there.

15:12 hrs IST: DROPPED! Dhoni drops a simple catch. Chahal gets a bit of drift and Nicholls pokes at it but Dhoni shells the chance.

15:06 hrs IST: Latham and Nicholls are building a decent stand. The lower middle order is low on experience and this gives them a good chance.

15:00 hrs IST: The run-rate continues to be under four runs. New Zealand will need some quick runs.

14:27 hrs IST: Good first over from Hardik Pandya. India are applying the pressure. Latham and Taylor hold the key.

14:21 hrs IST: Kedar Jadhav, who did not bowl in the first match, comes into the attack. He was the difference in the 2016 series. Can he pull off something special in front of his home town fans?

14:17 hrs IST: Taylor is also in good form and he pushes it past cover for a couple. New Zealand are 35/3 after 10 overs.

14:13 hrs IST: FOUR! Glorious shot to get off the mark. Latham is in great touch and it shows. Good length ball outside off, Latham leans into the shot and punches it to cover.

1:25 PM IST: We are five minutes away from start. A lot of focus will be on the pitch. Three hundred-plus scores have been registered on this Pune track. India had beaten Australia by 3 wickets in a day-night match in January 2017. Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav smashed centuries as India chased 351 for a win.

1:12 PM: The last seven ODI fixtures played out between India vs New Zealand have seen the winner alternate; New Zealand claimed a six-wicket victory last time out in Mumbai.

1:01 PM: New Zealand have won the toss and opted to bat. The Kiwis are unchanged. The Indians have made one change -- Axar Patel has replaced Kuldeep Yadav.

12:52 PM: The ICC has approved the India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI. So toss should be on time at 1 PM.

12:39 PM: According to Harsha Bhogle, the pitch is looking fine and the match should start on schedule.

12:26 PM: BCCI’s zonal observer Ramesh Mhamunkar has given a go ahead for the India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI. This will be Pune’s third ODI match ever.

12:21 PM: The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit has been caught off guard, said a BCCI official. “The BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) under Neeraj Kumar will have some answering to do. Here a random man comes, doesn’t have an all-access area pass (only given to those who can enter any area) and is taken to the main pitch by the curator,” a BCCI official said. How alarming!

12:15 PM: The ICC will also make an inspection soon. The match referee Chris Broad, former England batsman and no stranger to India, will check out the 22-yard strip.

12:09 PM: “Pandurang Salgaonkar has been suspended from the Maharashtra Cricket Association’s curator’s post with immediate effect,” BCCI acting Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary told PTI. “The MCA has also suspended Salgaonkar from all other positions in the association. An inquiry Commission will also be constituted by MCA. At BCCI, we reiterate that we have zero tolerance towards any corrupt activity,” he added.

12:03 PM: The international Cricket Council, which has zero tolerance against corruption, will also probe the matter of pitch doctoring in Pune.

11:57 PM: Hours before the 2nd ODI in Pune, a sting operation showed Pandurang Salgaonkar speaking to an undercover reporter, posing as a bookie. The 68-year-old was seen agreeing to tampering with the pitch to suit the requirements put forth by the reporter.

11:52 PM: The Pune curator has been barred from the stadium. The BCCI curator will now make an inspection soon. As of now, the 2nd ODI between India vs New Zealand will go on.

11:48 PM: Pune has been rocked by reports of pitch-fixing. A sting operation carried out by India Today ‘reveals’ that the curator Pandurang Salgaonkar had allowed people to tamper with the pitch ahead on the eve of the second ODI.

PREVIEW

New Zealand’s proficiency probably boils down to the preparation for the tour of India. Their A team played several games and a clutch of players finally found a place in the senior side. Then New Zealand played two practice games in Mumbai before the first ODI. Latham, who scored a century in the second warm-up game, carried his good form into the first of the three ODIs but what was more telling is Ross Taylor’s form.

Ross Taylor (95) and Tom Latham (103 not out) set a new record for the highest ever partnership for New Zealand against India by adding 200 runs for the fourth wicket. They erased the previous best of 190 between Scott Styris and Taylor also for the fourth wicket at Dambulla on August 10,2010. The 180-run stand for the third wicket between Adam Parore and Ken Rutherford at Vadodara on October 28,1994 was the previous best for New Zealand against India in India.

Statistics prove that new Zealand have historically played well in India and unlike Australia, who depended too much on a David Warner or a Steve Smith, the Kiwis have more muscle in their batting line-up.

India’s batting at Wankhede once again centred around Virat Kohli. The Indian cricket captain became the only second batsman to score a hundred in his 200th ODI by making 121 off 125 balls with nine fours and two sixes. Abraham de Villiers was the first batsman to achieve this feat. who on his 200th ODI, once again came up with a superb century .
