Ross Taylor, Tom Latham 50s lift New Zealand vs India in 1st ODI

New Zealand are chasing a daunting target of 281 to win against India in the first game at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

New Zealand’s dependable pair of Ross Taylor and Tom Latham revived their chase of 281 for victory against India in the first ODI by completing their half-centuries at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. (India vs New Zealand blog | Scorecard)

Taylor completed his fifty off 58 balls with four boundaries while the left-handed Latham batted with command, also making his half-century off 58 balls, with four boundaries. The two raised a century stand for the fourth wicket, reviving New Zealand’s innings from 80/3 in the 18th over.

India, riding on skipper Virat Kohli’s 121, scored 280/8 after electing to bat first.

The fifth wicket pair for New Zealand kept the Indian bowlers at bay, running well between the wickets and not taking any risks.

Taylor and Latham are coming off rapid centuries in the second tour match, and they carried the confidence into the first ODI.

While Taylor scored a laborious 52-ball 34 in the first warm-up match, he warmed up for the ODI series with a quickfire 102 not out in the second game. Latham scored 59 and 108 not out in the two tour matches to signal his rich form.
