22:01 hrs IST: That is all from us here. Join us on October 25 for the second ODI from Pune. Bye Bye.
21:53 hrs IST: Tom Latham, Man of the Match: It was pretty humid out there. Keeping for 50 overs and then batting is pretty tough. Conditions back home are pretty different, so nice to see it through. Whatever suits the team, and at the moment that No. 5 position is up for grabs. It’s something I’ve been working on - the reverse sweep
21:49 hrs IST: Kane Williamson: Great hundred from Virat, becoming fairly normal. And then to see a partnership like that.. one of the best chases I’ve seen. The bowling performance in this humidity was a great effort. 200-run partnership was a special, special partnership. You want to take the game deep over here
21:47 hrs IST: Virat Kohli: The knock was pretty satisfying. 275+ was good on that wicket, but NZ batted really well in the second half. Ross and Tom were outstanding, they deserved to win today. Putting the dew into perspective in the last 13-14 overs, we were definitely some runs short. Would have liked to have a better batting performance. However, from where we were, 280 was a competitive score. They tackled our spinners really well. They picked their areas. Credit to them. Tom especially. Enjoyed watching him.
21:42 hrs IST: Ross Taylor: The way Kohli anchored the innings, it put us under pressure. 280 was always going to be a tough score. Latham batted through and took the pressure off me. We were just trying to take it deep. It is very hard to start an innings here and we had to give ourselves a chance
21:35 hrs IST: This is now the highest successful run-chase at the Wankhede Stadium. Great batting from Latham and Taylor and their 200-run stand, a record for any wicket at this venue, has been the key in New Zealand registering this win.
21:34 hrs IST: Henry Nicholls finishes it off in style as he pulls Bhuvneshwar to the deep mid wicket fence. New Zealand have won by six wickets and they take a 1-0 lead in the series. Who would have ever thought?
21:31 hrs IST: WICKET! What an anti-climax. Taylor slaps a full and wide ball down to cover and he departs for 95. Ends a fabulous knock from him.

20:34 hrs IST: Both batsmen have to start hitting the big shots. For India, Bumrah is the key.

20:28 hrs IST: FIFTY ! 9th fifty for Tom Latham and fourth consecutive for the left-hander. The partnership has crossed 100. Can New Zealand pull off something incredible?

17:20 hrs IST: Boult: Could be quite competitive. New ball is crucial on that surface. We have the firepower. The heat was the main issue. 1.30 in the afternoon is a big ask to come in and bowl with intensity. Wickets at the top of the innings is what any bowling attack is trying to do. Ball swung around a little, was expecting it to swing more.

16:19 hrs IST: FOUR! Superb timing from Kohli. Good length ball on the pads and the Indian skipper whips it away to the deep mid wicket fence.
16:14 hrs IST: FOUR! Poor ball from Milne. Short and on leg stump, Dhoni thumps the pull to the deep backward square leg fence. India are building a nice platform.

15:11 hrs IST: Karthik and Kohli have looked to be confident as they look to tackle this middle over period. Adam Milne is into the attack.
15:02 hrs IST: Oh dear! De Grandhomme is not looking in good shape. He is vomiting. Probably the heat is becoming too much to handle.
14:57 hrs IST: DROPPED! Oh dear, that could be very costly for New Zealand. Full ball from de Grandhomme and it holds up on the deck, Kohli checks his drive and Santner drops it at cover.
14:54 hrs IST: FOUR! Superb timing from Karthik as he walks down the pitch and clips a length ball wide of mid on.

14:17 hrs IST: Another great over from Boult. India are just hanging in there. After 10 overs, they are 37/2.
14:11 hrs IST: It is not a full house at Wankhede, which was not expected. It being a Sunday and holiday season, fans were expected in large numbers. Boult, at third man, is using ice pack in between balls to apply it on his neck and the head
14:08 hrs IST: Inside edged but safe! Kedar Jadhav looks to cut but it is too close to the body, gets an inside edge that rolls back on to the stumps. Boult has great figures of 4-1-6-2.

10:50 hrs IST: Hello and welcome to HT’s live coverage of the first ODI of the three-game series between India and New Zealand.
India’s supreme confidence comes in all varieties of cricket has come from the depth of talent available. When a team can afford to play without two of its leading spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja – it tells a story in itself.
New Zealand have been honest in their approach. In Indian conditions, the Blackcaps know they have a challenge at hand and the threat primarily comes from a clutch of young bowlers who have consistently troubled the best of batsmen.
New Zealand’s batsmen know they will have to subdue India’s spinners if they are to have any chance of winning the series. Left-arm Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav and right-arm leg break Yuzvendra Chahal have established themselves as India’s latest attacking combination. Add to this the telling length and line of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
India, second in the ODI rankings, can regain the top ODI spot from South Africa if they win the series 3-0. The second ODI takes place in Pune on Wednesday, with the third in Kanpur on October 29. The two sides will then play three T20 matches. New Zealand are ranked fifth in the world.
