Rohit Sharma has smashed 56 sixes from 68 T20 matches for India. He now needs only 19 more sixes to overtake Yuvraj Singh’s record tally of 74 sixes from 58 games, a record he could break during the three-match T20 series vs Sri Lanka.india vs sri lanka 2017 Updated: Dec 20, 2017 17:14 IST
Rohit Sharma, who is leading the Indian cricket team for the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka in the absence of Virat Kohli, is on the cusp of breaking Yuvraj Singh’s record for hitting most number of sixes in the T20 Internationals by an Indian.
Sharma has smashed 56 sixes from 68 T20 matches for India. He now needs only 19 more sixes to overtake Yuvraj Singh’s record tally of 74 sixes from 58 games.
With India taking on the Sri Lankan cricket team in a three-match T20 series beginning in Cuttack on Wednesday, Rohit has a golden opportunity to topple Yuvraj’s record before the year ends.
Rohit Sharma was in sublime form in the recently-concluded, three-match ODI series against the islanders. After India suffered a humiliating defeat in the first match in Dharamsala, Rohit played a captain’s knock and slammed the third double ton of his career to lead his side to a series-levelling win in Mohali.
His knock of 208 off 153 balls featured 13 maximums. Sri Lanka never recovered from the scars Rohit’s assault left them with and suffered another defeat in Visakhapatnam to give hosts a 2-1 win in the series.
Rohit has had a reputation for hitting sixes across formats. In his 174-match long ODI career, the 30-year old has walloped 163 sixes. He has also smashed 28 maximums in 23 Tests.
With Sri Lanka being one of his favourite opposition - after all, two of his three doubles centuries have come against them - it won’t be surprising if the Mumbai batsman goes on to break this record during the series.
