The 30-shares sensitive index has gathered 11,748.12 in the first five minutes of trading.

The stock market continued its upward momentum for the fourth straight session on Wednesday, with the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark, Sensex, rising by over 41 points in early trading on funds and retailers buying.

The 30-shares sensitive index, which had gained 87.33 points on Tuesday, gathered another 41.27 points at 11,748.12 in the first five minutes of trading.

In similar fashion, the Nifty index on the wide-based National Stock Exchange was up by 14.50 points at 3,440.20. Marketmen said the strength in domestic stock markets was on the back of firming global markets.

The major gainers were Bajaj Auto, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, Hero Honda, Maruti, Grasim, Larsen and Toubro, Grasim Industries, Wipro, Reliance Industries and ICICI Bank.
