It has also sought a thorough probe by an independent investigating agency into the scam.

Among those whose conduct has come under a scanner in the scam are five joint secretaries, three of whom are PCS officers. In a three-page letter to principal secretary, Housing, Surjit Kaur Sandhu, LDA vice- chairman BB Singh has stated that 123 fraudulent plot allotments causing a loss of Rs 2 crore were detected in the preliminary inquiry conducted by the department in its Janakipuram housing scheme on Sitapur Road.

“However, the exact nature, extent and quantum of loss caused to the department could only be ascertained by a detailed inquiry into the scam by an independent agency,” he said.

Three things that have emerged from the departmental inquiry are as follows: the amount on Rs 500 deposit slips was tampered and shown as Rs 50,000.

Deposit receipts of genuine allottees were replicated and the name of other persons were entered upon them.
