2 criminals killed in encounters

THE UTTAR Pradesh police gunned down two hardcore criminals in separate encounters in Varanasi and Chandauli districts on Sunday morning.

The Varanasi police gunned down a hardcore criminal in an encounter near Dafi by-pass under Lanka police station and recovered a sophisticated firearm ‘Insas’, a factory made pistol and Tavera vehicle from the encounter site. The slain criminal was identified as Akhilesh Bind of Bihar. Police got information that a dreaded criminal was coming to Varanasi to execute murder of a businessman on the direction of mafia turned chairman of the District Co-operative Bank, Vineet Singh.

Acting on the tip off, Special Operation Group (SOG) sleuths and station in-charge of Lanka police station laid a trap at Dafi by-pass in the wee hours of Sunday. They saw a Tavera wheeler coming from Chandauli district and signaled it to stop but the occupants opened fire on the police and the SOG team.

In retaliation, police also opened fire, resulting into death of a criminal on the spot whereas another criminal managed to flee from the scene. Later, on the basis of documents recovered on the person of the deceased, police identified him as dreaded criminal of Nalanda district in Bihar, Akhilesh Bind. The slain criminal was wanted in several heinous crimes in Bihar.

Talking to medipersons here on Sunday, senior superintendent of police, Ashutosh Pandey, claimed that mafia don-cum bank chairman Vineet Singh alias Shyam Narayan Singh, who was wanted in the murder case of Guddu Yadav, was absconding and had taken shelter in Bihar. The SSP further added that Vineet Singh was running his gang in Varanasi from Bihar.

Meanwhile, in another incident, Chandauli police gunned down a hardcore criminal in an encounter near Industrial area on the wee hours of Sunday. The criminal was identified as Ajay Singh, a resident of Maniyahra village under Sakaldiha kotwali area, who had fled from the police custody on Saturday evening when being shifted to Varanasi district jail.

Ajay Singh was carrying a reward of Rs 5000 on his head.As per information, cops of Dheena police station had arrested Ajay Singh on Friday. When Ajay Singh was being taken to Varanasi district jail, he evaded police custody and fled from the scene near Chandhasi on Saturday evening. Getting information, SP of Chandauli Praveen Kumar suspended two cops immediately and asked the circle officer to inquire into the matter.

Ajay Singh was wanted in several cases of heinous crime.
