Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah's political secretary on Monday predicted an "overwhelming victory" for the National Conference (NC) in the 2014 assembly elections.
"We will win the elections next year based on the performance of the NC-led government. Our actions will speak loudly for us," Abdullah's political secretary Tanvir Sadiq said here. "People delivered a verdict in 2009 and they will deliver the same verdict again in 2014 with a resounding and thumping mandate for the NC."
"Our report card is before the people and they will judge us by our performance. We will ask them to go through our performance and give their verdict in the next elections in 2014," Tanvir said.
Predicting rout of the Opposition in the assembly elections because of its duplicity and anti-people policies, the political secretary said the process of its degeneration had already begun.
Tanvir referred to its dubious role in dividing the people to weaken the NC from time to time. "Its (opposition) role in 1984 and 1986 in destabilising the democratically elected government of Farooq Abdullah is no secret. Their anti-people role in 1990 brought the state to virtual disaster."
Taking a dig at the politics of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Tanvir said the PDP never supported the surrender and rehabilitation programme of Kashmiri youths languishing in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). "The records in the assembly are testimony to the fact that they voted against the resolution which was supported by the NC regarding the surrender and rehabilitation of the youths," he said.
PDP leaders had developed a habit of making brazen lies in public, while they oppose all good things just for the sake of opposition, Tanvir said.
The political secretary said the efforts of the present government under the leadership of Abdullah had brought peace to the state, progress through unprecedented development and prosperity among people through economic recovery.
While reiterating government's commitment for upholding human rights and punishing the culprits on this count, Tanvir said: "We have lost 23 years and a complete generation has grown under the shadow of gun and we cannot allow it to go on."
