Police said one of the accused contacted the businessman over phone, demanding money on September 18 and threatened that his family would be eliminated if it was not paid.

Based on a complaint from the businessman, police traced the call, which came from Tiruchirapalli. Police arrested three persons on Tuesday and remanded to custody, they added.
