A 30-year-old man was shot in the leg by a chain snatcher while he was chasing him in Andheri (west). Mehtab Ansari, the victim, is recuperating at the Cooper Hospital and is said to be out of danger.

According to the Juhu police, Ansari was on his bike when he heard Pallavi Jaywant (21), a college student, screaming. He saw a person on a black Pulsar speeding away after snatching Pallavi's gold chain. Ansari, who was on his bike, immediately followed the accused.
He caught up with the chain snatcher near the Regency Hotel. "As Ansari got down from his bike, the accused shot him in the leg . The accused who was wearing a helmet then sped off," said Aftab Ansari, the victim's elder brother.
The victim then called Aftab who came to the spot and rushed the victim to the hospital. "Ansari had memorized the number of the chain snatcher's bike but after he was shot at, he could not recollect it," added Aftab.
Deputy commissioner of Police (zone IX) KMM Prasanna said, "We will be taking the statements of Ansari and other witnesses." The Juhu police have registered a case under section 397 (robbery or dacoity with the attempt to cause grievous hurt) and 392 (punishment for robbery) of IPC . A case has also been booked under the Indian Arms Act.
Amardeep Mishra, a BJP leader saw Ansari being shot at and followed the accused in his car for a few minutes. But when a BEST bus came in his way he lost the accused, the Juhu police said.
