An estimated 35 per cent votes were polled in Arunachal Assembly elections till 2 pm on Thursday as voters turned out in large numbers braving inclement weather, election office sources said.

Long queues were seen at Doimukh and Itanagar constituencies.

Voters, including a large number of women, lined up before the booths as incessant rains pouring down in the state capital and other adjoining areas for the past two days, stopped for some time.

Polling, being held under special security arrangements, was peaceful in almost all the 1681 polling stations in the state, Chief Electoral Officer MK Parida said.

Polling in three stations in Vijaynagar circle of Miao constituency was adjourned as polling personnel and Electronic Voting Machines could not reach the booths due to flash floods.

The polling process was getting delayed in different booths despite the use of EVMs, as it took time to locate voters' names in the list, election officials said.

Voting began on Thursday to elect a 60-member state assembly.
