The injured — 4-year-old Kushal Khade, mother Poonam and a relative Dipali Dholap – were admitted to Lokmanya Hospital, Chinchwad, and are said to be stable.

The deceased have been identified as Sandip Dholap, Haribhau Dholap, Kashinath Dholap, Dhimal Dholap, Santosh Dholap and Usha Dholap.

The family was on its way to Karad to fix Sandip’s marriage, said Shashikant Mane, deputy superintendent of police (highway traffic).

The tempo driver, Musharraf Mandan, told police he was negotiating a turn near Kivale bridge when the van abruptly slowed down, causing him to collide with it from the rear.

The van turned turtle due to the impact. Police have detained Mandan.
