7,000 troops launch new operation in Afghanistan

Operation Mountain Fury involves about 4,000 Afghan police and soldiers and 3,000 US-backed coalition soldiers.

Around 7,000 soldiers with the Afghan and US-led coalition forces kicked off a major new anti-Taliban operation in east-central Afghanistan early on Saturday, the coalition said.

Operation Mountain Fury involved about 4,000 Afghan police and soldiers and 3,000 soldiers with the US-dominated coalition, it said in a statement.
