Seven persons were killed in a massive blaze that broke out in a high-rise residential building in South Mumbai on Friday night, Fire Brigade officials said on Saturday.

Film producer Dinesh Gandhi was among those killed in the fire that broke out on the twelfth floor of the 26-storey Mont Blanc building at Kemps Corrner.

The other dead have been identified as Sunitra Tejwal, Chittaranjan, Chhotu, and Buruwal Mubalia. Two more bodies, which were recovered from the building, have not been identified yet.

"Identities of two male bodies are yet to be ascertained. They are completely charred," said a fire official.

Six fire Brigade personnel, including two officers, were also injured while carrying out rescue and firefighting operations. The officials are now said to be stable.

The fire that broke out at around 7.30pm on Friday was completely doused after a little more than five hours of firefighting at 1.11am Saturday.

Cooling operations are still on.
