A RAW deal
EVERYBODY WAS taken by surprise on Friday when the Research Analysis Wing (RAW) chief made a public appearance and inaugurated RAW special bureau office in Indira Nagar.
This has happened for the first time in the history of RAW, the country’s top security wing, that it did something openly.
RAW chief PKH Tharakan and other officials did not give any audience to media, which was not allowed to enter the office. Thus, the reason behind opening the office could not be known.
Tharakan, who holds the post of Secretary (R) in Government of India, arrived here on Thursday and was staying at the police officers’ mess. He reached the 19/S-12 building at Sector-9 in Indira Nagar around 12.30 pm under tight security.
He inaugurated central zone office complex of the special bureau. The senior RAW official SBS Tomar too was present on the occasion.
Unlike RAW activity, this was for the first time when it made opening of its office public. However, the officials avoided meeting the mediapersons.
As the locals were surprised to see a large number of media persons moving around the place, they, too, started gathering there causing some chaos.
Though majority of the common people were unaware of RAW, they were posing various to reporters about the presence of policemen around the building.
Sources, however, revealed that inauguration of the office in Lucknow was a strategic move by the wing. Tharakan left for Delhi around 4 pm.
