Abandoned rifles seized by Police

Three single barrel rifles,which were found abandoned near Mayiladumparai in the district, have been seized, police said on Friday.

Police described the rifles as 'hunting pistols' and said the weapons were handed over to the Revenue Divisional Officer for further inquiry.

The rifles were found at the Murugodai burning ghat by a team engaged in combing operations for Naxalites in forest areas of Theni district, police added.
