Addressing a meeting on Thursday, ADC Teachers Association president Dr Ram Murti Pathak said he had met agitating student leader Ram Shanker Pandey ‘Sheelu’ at SRN Hospital where he was shifted by the district administration during his hunger strike.
Dr Pathak said he had told Sheelu about the limitations of the principal in increasing the seats. He further said that the dean, College Development Council, had expressed his inability to increase the seats.
Dr KK Tewari, secretary of the association, said when the principal had agreed in the presence of district administration to admit students on left over seats, they should also help in commencement of classes in the college. Dr RN Pandey opined that since most of the admission had already been completed, students should extend co-operation in restoring normal academic environment on the campus.
Dr SK Singh, chief proctor, said that student leaders should come forward in restoring normal academic life.
Dr Ram Varna Shukla, dean, Students Welfare at ADC, said that the entire academic community was interested in restoration of normalcy in the college.
Meanwhile, a day after the closure of the college by the authorities till further orders, the protesting students of Allahabad Degree College (ADC) changed their venue of strike from the college to the residence of the officiating ADC manager here on Thursday. The students stuck to their demands and remained on fast unto death. ADC principal Dr Mukti Vyas had announced on Wednesday to close the college till further orders following students’ agitation.
