On Thursday, District Magistrate RN Tripathi held a meeting with police and administration officials here to take stock of the situation in the wake of these festivals falling this month. The DM said that sites of Holi bonfire should be chosen in such a manner that they don’t fall in areas that are prone to conflict.

Tripathi asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates to hold meetings with police circle officers and ensure that no dispute was allowed to fester in this connection.

Like every year, the liquor shops would remain closed by order of the DM on Holi on March 15. In his appeal to the masses, the DM advised restraint in celebrating the festival of colours by giving due regard to the religious and personal feelings of all.

Steps should be taken to ensure peaceful conduct of the four traditional processions taken out on the occasion of Holi every year in Old City, said the DM.

With reference to Chehellum falling tentatively on March 21, Tripathi informed that the procession taken out from Nazim Saheb Ka Imambara would commence at 1 pm and culminate at Karbala Talkatora passing through Nakkhas and Khala Bazar. The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) officials were instructed to make necessary civic arrangements along the procession route to ensure its peaceful passage. The Chief Medical Officer was also asked to make suitable arrangements including an ambulance and other medical aid to meet any contingency.

Similar instructions were issued to the fire department officials, who were asked to deploy fire tenders at Pata Nullah, Nakkhas and Karbala Talkatora. Electric wires hanging loose from poles pose a threat to those carrying ‘alam’ during the Chehellum procession.

The LESA officials were asked by the DM to make sure that stray electric wires on the procession route caused no mishap.

Besides administration, officials of police, LMC, Power, Fire, Jal Sansthan, Intelligence and Telecom also attended the meeting.
