The district administration has beefed up security in the temple city and deployed additional forces around religious places and vital installations ahead of Holi celebrations on Wednesday, official sources said on Tuesday.

Security measures in and around the sensitive Kashi Vishwanath temple-Gyanvapi mosque complex, Sankat Mochan temple, and vital installations like airport, railway stations, bus stands, has been stepped up further in the wake of last week's terror attacks, sources said.

Additional policemen have been deployed in localities with mixed population and places where 'holika dahan' would take place on Tuesday night to prevent anti-social elements from disrupting festivities, they said.

Policemen have been put on patrol duty throughout the city for next two days to monitor activities of people and suspected anti-social elements, sources said.

They also added intelligence officials would also be deployed in plainclothes to keep a tab on divisive and disruptive forces in the city.

The district and adjoining areas were already put on high alert since last week after the twin blasts at the Sankat Mochan temple and Cantonment railway station killing 20 people.
