AIIMS status to SS Hospital boon for region: Experts
THE CABINET Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Thursday, accorded AIIMS status to 13 medical institutes across the country at a cost of Rs 15.6 billion. This includes Sir Sunderlal Hospital of the Banaras Hindu University.

This move would prove a milestone in the field of healthcare in this region.
Experts associated with the SS Hospital believe this decision would have a long-standing impact on the medical scenario of this region as even the most deprived can receive medical services of international standards without much investment.
Not only number of doctors and para-medical staff would increase, but the standard of diagnosis and treatment would also be enhanced at the SS Hospital.
“Now, chances of setting up a 500-bedded super specialty hospital with a total expenditure of around 448.17 crore at Foundation Place of BHU in Bhagwanpur area have also increased,” sources said.
The SS Hospital caters to healthcare demands from different states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh besides entire Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Director of Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU), Prof Gajendra Singh said the decision would prove a milestone in the medical scenario of entire Eastern UP.
“Now the SS Hospital would have state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities to serve the common people,” he added.
Medical Superintendent of SS Hospital, Prof S Churamani Gopal also echoed these sentiments.
“Besides, significant improvement in number of faculty members and para-medical staff, other facilities such as OPD, Emergency, ICU, CCU and operation theatre would also be improved,” she said adding the grant which the SS Hospital has been getting for patient care would also be improved.
