UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday called upon the elders of riot-hit Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts to help the administration to bring back peace.
During a visit to the two districts, Yadav interacted with a group of elders in Malikpura village and expressed grief at the killing of two youths of the village on August 27. The village was the epicentre of the violence, which erupted after the murder of three youths over molestation. Violence spread in several villages of Muzaffarnagar and Shamli, districts claiming over 40 lives from both communities.
He visited the families of the two persons in the village where a group of villagers briefed him about the incident and demanded action against the accused.
Earlier, the chief minister met the father of the person whose killing sparked the riots.
Later, the chief minister visited relief camps in Shamli district.
He urged officials to work towards building up a conducive atmosphere so that the camp inmates return to their homes.
