The trans-Gomti police picked up an expelled constable Bhim Singh for interrogation on Saturday night. The constable, a close aide of slain don-turned ex-Samajwadi Party MLC Ajit Singh, was playing the key role in getting the prime land evicted from Agrawal.

To evade his name being dragged into the limelight, Bhim Singh placed Santosh Singh as a dummy player in the dispute with Agrawal.

The cops had strong information about Bhim Singh’s role in the murder conspiracy and they picked him up for interrogation on Saturday night.

While the senior cops were quizzing the expelled cop, a ruling party legislator arrived at the police station. The politician initially forced the cops to release the cop-turned-property dealer immediately.

Later, after ‘request’ from the top cops, the legislator allowed them to quiz the suspect but gently in his (politician’s) presence. Since the expelled cop was reluctant in revealing the facts, the cops finally decided to let Bhim Singh go.

The prime suspect walked away freely along with his mentor on Sunday morning.

Sources in police revealed that Bhim Singh was the only person who could have unravelled the conspiracy in the sensational shootout. Singh was aware about the shooters hired for the killing and he played a prime role in hatching the plot for the same.

The sources further revealed that Bhim Singh had lost hope about convincing Agrawal to sell off the prime land to Santosh after the murder of don Ajit Singh.

Meanwhile, office- bearers of the Akhil Bhartiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal met the DM and the SSP on Monday demanding arrest of Agrawal’s killers and to ensure security of the victim’s family members. The traders would take out a procession to register their protest on Tuesday.
