Dr BK Kandhare, veterinary doctor of the government hospital, said: “Due to heavy downpour three months ago, the ceiling of the hospital collapsed. There was no untoward incident since it happened at night. But the medicines were damaged and the operation theater became unusable.”

“An officer from the state government came and inspected the area. We heard Rs 2.5 lakh were sanctioned for repair. But no work has started yet. We have set up an OPD in the hospital yard because the complete ceiling may come down anytime,” he added.

Kandhare added: “The municipal corporation suggested four places, but they were not found suitable for the hospital.”

“One site was in Umbarde village, which is away from the city, another was Chikan Ghar which is in the Waldhuni riverbed and the other places are encroached upon by slums. We requested the government to allot the same place for the hospital. KDMC had passed the resolution which is now on the government desk,” he said.
