What’s going on in the investigations in the Noida double-murder case?

Just hours after declaring a “breakthrough” that they were looking at a former domestic help of the Talwar family as the killer, the police now say Vishnu Thapa is just one of the suspects, and not the main suspect. Contradicting his seniors, SSP A. Satish Ganesh said Vishnu, who served the Talwars for seven years, wasn’t the prime suspect in the killing of 14-year-old Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj. He said several people, including Aarushi’s parents, were being questioned.

The reason why Vishnu was projected as the killer perhaps had something to do with Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati’s visit to Noida on Monday. With very little clue after four days of the murders, declaring a breakthrough was possibly the best way of escaping uncomfortable questions during Mayawati’s visit. Just hours after Mayawati left Noida, the SSP’s correction came: “Vishnu is not the main suspect.”
