Ask the Expert: 'Stutter when I face people'

But I don't stutter when I am alone. I don't know why. Please help.Submit your query

Actually I stutter. When I speak alone I don't stutter. Even when I read a book loudly in front of people I don't stutter, but when I come in front of people for giving my seminar, no words come out of mouth, my brain becomes nonsense at that time, all my logical view is washed up during that time. I stutter more even speaking a single word, I don't know why it is happening. As I'm an engineering student of 4th sem, when I go in next sem I have to attend only seminar, so I'm feeling highly inferior to my classmates, I also wanna be fluent while speaking in front of others. After one month I'm getting 45 days holidays so I wanna improve myself in that gap, so plz help me .

As you have described, you don't seem to have an organic problem. Your problem has a psychological nature. It means that some psychological processes need strengthening.The first and foremost would be, trust and faith on yourself that if you can speak when you are alone you definitely can do so when you are on a dias.It is all about a feeling that you are amongst people who are flawless and they will make fun of you if you make a mistake.Practice holds the key to your problem. Practice with lots of people present psychologically.It is technically known as simulation.A problem remains problem unless you remove the tag.Let it be called 'skill learning'.Whenever anybody tries to pickup a skill or excel in some art, he has to begin practicing it rigorously.During your holidays use mental simulation with conviction and confidence that if the rest can even I can.If we decide on something for sure we sure can achieve them.If you have been brave enough to discuss it I am sure you will not stop here. You have shown courage now generate conviction that 'yes,I can'.
