AU V-C announces sops for students, teachers and staff

ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY (AU) Vice-Chancellor Prof RG Harshe announced a bonanza for students, teachers and employees of the university on the occasion of Independence Day. Henceforth the meritorious students will get financial assistance, girl students can avail the bus service while teachers and employees can get a loan and medical facility. Taking initiative to motivate the students and to help the poor students, Prof Harshe declared scholarship of Rs 500 per month for the meritorious students .

Henceforth the meritorious students will get financial assistance, girl students can avail the bus service while teachers and employees can get a loan and medical facility.

Taking initiative to motivate the students and to help the poor students, Prof Harshe declared scholarship of Rs 500 per month for the meritorious students and 'Learn while earn' scheme for the poor students. Under the scheme the students can earn by taking classes, preparing catalogues in the library, organising seminars and doing other productive works in the varsity. A sum up to Rs 1000 will be offered to the students depending upon their work. Prof Harshe said that Head of Botany Department Prof DR Mishra will be the head of a three-member committee, comprising AU Examination Controller Prof Hari Shankar Upadhyay and Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Prof Jagdamba Singh. Both the scholarships will be given to around 450 students.

Prof Harshe declared to pool a fund of Rs 25 lakh to help teachers and employees by offering them loan to meet their personal liabilities besides medical facility as per Central Government rules from September 1.

Prof Harshe declared bus service for the girl students of the varsity. The bus service provided to the girls students will be on contract basis. A common hall and canteen will also be constructed on the Women's College campus for the day scholars. Prof Harshe also declared to give the TA/DA to the teachers going out of the varsity for seminars and symposium and support the students holding seminars.

To make the students IT savvy and net-enabled, Prof Harshe declared to install computers at every hostel equipped with broadband Internet connections. He said that 1100 new books had been procured for the libraries and more books would be added to the libraries.

Earlier, Prof Harshe hoisted the national flag in the presence of AU teachers, officials and employees besides a large number of students.
