Talking to HT Allahabad Live on Wednesday the SSP also disclosed that SP City has been given the task of finding out the names of police officers including the station officer and others who colluded in facilitating arms licence to Hamza.

Action against all the cops will be taken after the findings, he added.

It may be mentioned that Hamza, cousin of SP MP Ateeq Ahmad, and four others were named in the murder of Nanhe Khan, the railway contractor who was bumped off in broad day light in Civil Lines on August 5.

Nanhe Khan's nephew Akhtar had lodged a named complaint against Hamza, Brajesh Jaiswal and Idris, both railway contractors, Mannu and Sohrab in this regard. Two other unidentified persons were also named in this murder which had sent shockwaves in the city.

Idris was arrested while Sohrab and Mannu appeared before the police after several days and confessed their involvement but cited land dispute as the cause behind the murder. However, Akhtar, Nanhe's nephew had alleged in the FIR that a contract worth Rs 2 crore which Nanhe had bagged and in which Hamza wanted either a cut of Rs 15 lakh or the tender to be handed over to Brajesh and Idris was the cause behind the murder.

However, despite the arrest of Sohrab and Mannu, the two alleged shooters, and Idris police allegedly made no attempt to arrest Hamza who is related to a powerful MP.

Police have not even cared to lodge an FIR under section 420 against Hamza who procured licence of a 9 mm pistol and a rifle after furnishing wrong information to the police through an affidavit. Cops appear in no mood to procure even a non-bailable warrant against the accused or to get attachment of property proceedings initiated against him.

It may be mentioned that CO Rajeshwar Singh who was recently transferred for acting tough on the Hamza issue had recommended not only the cancellation of Hamza's arms licence but had also recommended lodging of FIR under Section 420 IPC against him for hiding facts while applying for the licence. The CO had taken the step in the capacity of a gazetted officer after going through facts and evidence of Hamza's involvement.

What more evidence senior police officers need to book Hamza is the question doing rounds in some police circles ?
