Their disappearance was discovered on Thursday following which a case had been registered at the Basta police station under the provisions of the Foreigners' act, the sources said.

The four fishermen are Syed Mohammed Haldar, Mohammed Nanumian Haldar, Haroon Sardar and Abdul Rahim Haldar. All of them belonged to Telikhali village under Ferozpur district of Bangladesh.

The sources said a police team had already left for Haridaspur international check post on the Indo-Bangladesh border in search of the missing fishermen.

All of them had been rescued from the sea after their fishing boat capsized in a storm and they were brought to the Bahabalapur fishing base on September 22 last.

They were subsequently kept under detention by the police at the police barrack at Basta, the sources said.
