Four Bangladeshi fishermen, who after being rescued from the Bay of Bengal last September were detained by the police at Basta, have escaped, police sources said on Friday.
Their disappearance was discovered on Thursday following which a case had been registered at the Basta police station under the provisions of the Foreigners' act, the sources said.
The four fishermen are Syed Mohammed Haldar, Mohammed Nanumian Haldar, Haroon Sardar and Abdul Rahim Haldar. All of them belonged to Telikhali village under Ferozpur district of Bangladesh.
The sources said a police team had already left for Haridaspur international check post on the Indo-Bangladesh border in search of the missing fishermen.

They were subsequently kept under detention by the police at the police barrack at Basta, the sources said.
