Shops and schools remained closed, while vehicular traffic in the district was not affected by the bandh, they said.
The police prevented the demonstrators from burning an effigy of UP Chief Minister Mayawati at the collectorate crossing.

Terming the bandh successful, district president of Congress Sanjiv Singh said that the agitation will continue till Mayawati government is ousted from power.
