On Monday, the cleric, who has recently been appointed head of a seven-member interim committee formed to manage the affairs of Hussainabad Trust, waited in vain for the administration officials to formally hand over the charge to him. “The Shia Central Board of Waqf had communicated its decision regarding formation of an interim committee to look after the trust to the District Magistrate in his capacity as the chairman of the trust on January 20. The DM was asked by the board to hand over the charge of all movable and immovable properties of the trust to the committee but the administration is yet to comply with the order,” said Maulana Jawad.

The interim committee, which met here under the chairmanship of the cleric on January 21 passed a resolution stating that the DM should be requested to hand over the charge of the Trust at 4 pm at the Chota Imambara on January 23. “I myself had informed the DM in writing about the decision on Monday,” informed the cleric, who has spearheaded several campaigns in the past opposing administration’s control over waqf properties and the Hussainabad Trust.

Asked what his next move would be now that the administration has refused to comply with the Waqf Board’s decision Maulana Jawad said that he would take recourse to legal remedy to get the order implemented. “The Trust was formed by the royal family of awadh for charitable purposes and for alleviating the lot of the underprivileged members of the community. However under the control of the district administration it has become a convenient tool in the hands of the government agencies to take over prime waqf land for their sundry projects,” accused the Maulana. He said an effort would now be made to regain waqf land given for Awadh Haat project, close the four liquor shops being run on waqf properties and free land belonging to Shahnajaf Imambara from the encroachers.
