The boy, identified as Awaaz Mangla, was kidnapped by three men from Ramleela Maidan, near Sadar Bazar in Gurgaon. According to police, Awaaz went to a nearby shop when three unidentified men dragged him in a Maruti van. The kidnappers drove him to Delhi.

"He attacked one of the kidnappers with his pen on his face. Taking advantage of the unexpected attack on the kidnapper, Awaaz managed to open the gate and run away," said a senior police officer who didn't want to be named.

The kidnappers also followed him but the boy, a Class 9 student, showed his presence of mind and went to the Jhandewalan Metro station and informed the CISF jawans.

When the kidnappers saw the boy with CISF men they ran away from spot.

"CISF jawans helped him and contacted his family," the officer added.
