Ruksana Kausar, 22, snatched the militant's gun and shot him dead, forcing other attackers to flee. They had stormed her house with the intention of abducting her, police said.

"I am sure they would like to take revenge. I don't feel safe in my house," Kausar told reporters. A police officer said specially-instructed security personnel would ensure she was not targeted by militants.

After she was hailed as a hero, Kausar was offered a job with the police and recommended for bravery awards.

"We are providing security to Ruksana and her family as she fears for her life," the police officer said, requesting anonymity.
