THREE PERSONS sustained burn injuries and property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed on Monday evening when a fire broke out in an illegal camphor unit here. The incident took place in a multi-storeyed building in the wholesale market of spices and dry fruits at Gola Dinanath, under Kotwali police station.

Fire-fighters rescued a woman from the second floor of the building. An electrical short-circuit is said to be the cause of the fire.
Seven fire-tenders rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control after four hours. The injured were admitted to a private hospital, where their condition was stated to be out of danger.
A few journalists of the electronic media were misbehaved with by the owner of the factory and his employees.
An FIR against two persons has been lodged with the Kotwali police station in this connection. None of them has been arrested yet.
Chief fire officer Ravindra Kumar Singh described the factory as illegal and said it had no fire- fighting equipment. He appealed to citizens to inform him about more such factories in densely populated areas so that action may be initiated against them.
He added the department would launch a drive against illegal factories and storage of inflammable substances. The offenders would be blacklisted, he added.
Reports said Ratan Keshri owned a multi-storeyed building in the Goladinath area where he ran a camphor factory. Thousands of bags of camphor were stored illegally in the basement and other floors of the building.
The fire broke out at around 7.30 pm and soon engulfed the entire building. Some of the residents who tried to flee were trapped inside. The fire-fighters rescued the owner’s wife Nirmala Devi and two labourers Shyam Sunder (30) and Manoj (45).
