CBI ex-chief says I-T department’s comment in SC is ‘totally unfair’

Former CBI director AP Singh said that the comments made by the income tax department against him during a hearing in the Supreme Court were unfair and completely unfounded. The comments were made in connection with his alleged telephonic conversations with meat exporter Moin Qureshi.

He said in a statement: “ I have learnt from media reports that the income tax department while presenting its appraisal report on Moin Qureshi in the Supreme Court has made certain adverse comments against me. I wish to make it clear that these comments are unfair and completely unfounded.”

During the hearing in the SC, attorney general Mukul Rohatgi had said it was wholly unbecoming of the CBI and he was pained to say that.

The AG had informed he court about an “astonishing” disclosure of alleged hawala operator Qureshi’s secret conversations/dealings with several high ranking dignitaries including a then CBI director. Rohatgi, however, did not disclose any names.

Singh said he is consulting his lawyers over the issue and we give a detailed response once he sees and examines the appraisal report.
